Ruka is the Cancer Star Maiden of Conception: Please Give Birth to My Child!!. She has a very perceptive insight which allows her to see into the hearts of the people around her.
Overview[]
The Cancer Star Maiden and a "tsukuyomi" who can read others' minds by touching them. She keeps her distance from others so she doesn't have to hear their innermost thoughts. Her cold facade may keep others away, but those closest to her want nothing more than to feel her warm embrace.
Appearance[]
Normal Outfit: Ruka has dark Japanese pigtails and burgundy eyes. Her hair is held by a red material that looks like petals with a gold-colored string holding it together. As for her clothing, it relates closely to traditional japanese shrine maiden's kimono.
She wears a white vest top with sleeveless material starting near her elbows. The material is held together by a ribbon at the waist. She wears a short red shirt and thigh-long socks, with matching colored boots. To her hip, she has a large metal ring, with two rings in the middle that are supposed to resemble the pincers of a crab.
Swimsuit: Ruka's swimsuit is white with red outlines and straps.

Ruka is the tsundere stereotype, being cold towards others, including some of the orphans at the daycare she lives at and Itsuki whom she slowly warms up to. Her cold exterior is stemmed from her being a tsukuyomi-a person who can read other peoples feelings through body contact. She also dislikes lies because she can clearly see through them and feverishly avoids being touched by anyone because of her fear of what the person is thinking. This also makes her believe others would hate her because of her powers so this discourages her from interacting with others. Despite her harsh demeanor, she does this to be considerate of others, though she won't admit it.
While she cares for the orphans she lives with, she cannot bond with them because of her powers. If she feels one of them is in trouble, she will do everything in her power to help even if it unintentionally inconveniences others. However, she is unable to understand the feelings of Itsuki and Mahiru who are immune to her powers because they are God's Gifts. Even though this presents the perfect opportunity to grow closer to someone without her powers causing problems, Ruka wasn't initially interested in bonding with Itsuki. She does act nicer towards him after seeing his kindness and after he manages to help her resolve an issue. Over time, Ruka learns to open herself up to other people and is more honest with them too. After she learns to open her heart to others, she feels she can touch others in spite of her powers. She also develops romantic feelings for Itsuki, but often tries to hide them and her nature tends to accidentally put a rift in their relationship. Even when she genuinely tries to bond with him, she can accidentally work herself up though she manages to overcome this to an extent. She also has a love-hate relationship with Mahiru. While the two are friends and respect each other, Ruka views Mahiru as a major rival for Itsuki's affection.
Anime[]
In the Conception (anime), Ruka's tsundere nature remains though to a lesser degree. She is easier to get along with than in game and her powers are less of a burden on her. Most of her bonding arc was removed or abridged.

- According to the Conception visual fanbook,
- Ruka's initial outfit was based on Chinese dresses, but it was changed to look more like a traditional shrine maiden.
- Ruka's sleeves were shortened to make them easier to animate in 3D.
- The pattern on the sleeves of Ruka's clothes were made to look like something that could be cut with scissors or with the pincers of a crab.
- Her hair was made to resemble a crab with the sides shaped like pincers and the red thread shaped to look like legs.
- One of the early designs of the Star Children wore an outfit similar to what Ruka wears.
- Additional images of Ruka were added to one of the interviews, both of which show her topless.
