The chosen priestesses of Granvania chosen by the Star God out of Granvania's females for their ability to expel Impurities and blessed with their own constellation. Only once per lifetime, the priestesses use the constellation power to bear Star Wards (星授,Seijyu) that last 120 years to restore the labyrinths back to order.
When chosen, the Maidens have no age classification and their identification is marked by their respective constellation emblem. The only similarity between them is that they are all virgins. For the most part, it's the citizens of Granvania who decide the Star Maidens and the corresponding constellations decide which Maiden gets which Brand. Once chosen, the new Star Maiden will notice a Star Brand with her chosen constellation appear on her body and she will vomit an Impurity so their body will be pure. Once a Star Ward loses all of its power, a new Maiden is chosen to create a new one. Every 1,200 years, God's Gift may be summoned with a female companion if one of the Maidens is not chosen. She then will become the Star Maiden of that constellation as seen with Mahiru Konatsuki. During this time, they do not age until their Star Brands disappear after God's Gift's duty is fulfilled or after 120 years. Because of their duties, they are not allowed to leave the main city until their mission is done.
Normally, a God's Gift is supposed to only interact with the Star Maiden whose corresponding Ward needs to be replaced. Only during the Star Chaos, when all 12 Star Wards lose their powers, is a God's Gift forced to interact with all of them. Furthermore, they must perform the Classmating Ritual with the God's Gift to breed Star Children to combat the Impurities. The more your bonds deepen through communicating with them, the powerful your Star Children become. They are also responsible for creating the Star Wards God's Gift needs to cleanse the labyrinths. They are also the only ones able to perform the Unraveling Ceremony together, the ritual that opens the entrance to both the Stardust Labyrinths and the Ophiuchus Labyrinth.
In Conception Plus, it was revealed that an incident 30 years before the game began when a previous Star Maiden was attacked by the Bond Eater resulted in Alfie, who was originally a Star Child, to be modified so she can become a Star Maiden if needed.
The Star Maidens[]
Arie: The Aries Star Maiden who serves the church and teaches classes there for children. She's like a big sister the way she tends to God's Gift after his battles. She was worried the next God's Gift would be someone terrifying, but felt relief experiencing Itsuki's kindness.
Tarua: The Taurus Star Maiden and an apprentice mailman training under "Boss". An avid runner, she speeds through town delivering letters. She has a hard time stopping once she starts running though... She crashes into things so often, she can now pummel through small trees! Her ultimate goal is to become a great mailman. She can also smell things from long distances away, like a bloodhound.
Lillith and Lillie: The Gemini Star Maiden with two distinct personalities. Lillith loves peace and quiet while Lillie loves playing pranks. Lillie is known to cause trouble everywhere she goes leaving Lillith to clean up her messes. Getting along with both of them won't be easy...
Ruka: The Cancer Star Maiden and a "tsukuyomi" who can read others' minds by touching them. She keeps her distance from others so she doesn't have to hear their innermost thoughts. Her cold facade may keep others away, but those closest to her want nothing more than to feel her warm embrace.
Femiruna: The Leo Star Maiden and the heiress of a great family estate. She's so prim and proper that Itsuki feels out of place being around her. She believes the world is guaranteed peace due to her selection as a Star Maiden. She isn't the easiest person to deal with...
Mahiru Konatsuki: Itsuki's childhood friend. She thought she was pregnant, but was teleported to Granvania and became the Virgo Star Maiden after spitting out the Impurity harboring inside her. The Star Maidens are normally chosen among the citizens of Granvania, so it's a mystery why she was summoned...
Mirei: The Libra Star Maiden and the palace mage of the Kingdom of Granvania. Her interest in research is exponentially higher than that of love or other subjects. Not even the Classmating ritual phases her, compared to the embarrassment of the other Star Maidens. Her current research specimen is God's Gift.
Reone: The Scorpio Star Maiden and the palace physician. She offers medical attention and advice to all in Granvania, not just God's Gift and the Star Maidens. She has an indelible sex appeal, but her inner strength keeps her head on her shoulders in a fight. Her sense of duty is staggering, as she is more than willing to help God's Gift with any of his needs.
Sue: The Sagittarius Star Maiden who cares for animals in her spare time. Her horse (Balmung), chicken (Kere-Kere), and sheep (Algernon) are actually her own pets she brought to the Star God Academy. She wants to be a zoologist in the future so she can help any animal in need. She claims her duty as a Star Maiden is secondary to her animals.
Farun: The Capricorn Star Maiden and an avid traveling dancer. She never stays put in one place long enough to call it home. Now, however, she's stuck working at a bar in Granvania since she was chosen as a Star Maiden. She wants God's Gift to save the world already so she can get back to her travels. She also manages the optional quests you can complete.
Collette: The Aquarius Star Maiden who runs a bakery in Granvania. Her charisma attracts customers from all over the kingdom, often professing that the "Universal Law of Rye-vitation" pulls them into her shop. She's self-indulgent in her cuteness, using it to her advantage wherever she can. Combined with her charisma, you can't help but give in to her demands.
Yuzuha: The Pisces Star Maiden who paints on the side. She's extremely shy and soft-spoken. Her motivation to fulfill her duties as a Star Maiden is non-existent, but she's a self-proclaimed expert at giving into things and giving up easily. She's incredibly clumsy and believes that staying quiet and in the background is the best strategy to life.
Alfie: The Ophiuchus Star Maiden and a Star Child born from a previous God's Gift and Star Maiden 30 years ago. She's a tough-as-nails instructor to the Star Children she trains, but is quite charming and kind when she's off-duty. Having been part of an experiment to turn Star Children into Star Maidens, she was the first successful candidate to grow into her position today.
